GENERAL FAQ

  • I've forgotten my password, how can I get a new one?

To change your password, click on the link 'Forgot your password?' at https://www.nameking.com/. and follow the appropriate steps.

  • I need to make changes to my NameKing account how can I do this?

The NameKing domain administrative tool may be used to make numerous account changes including: account contact information and password, registrant details, domain lock, DNS, transfers, and account payments.  

Step 1:  Log into your Nameking account using the account email and password.
Step 2:  Depending on the type of change you need to make, you will need to navigate the gray tool box and                 select the appropriate item.
Step 3:  Make appropriate changes, and confirm change.

Pay by Visa and Mastercard

Step 1:  Log in to your Nameking account.

Step 2:  Click "Billing" link in gray box, then click "Charge up Account" button.

Step 3:  Fill out all required (*) fields and click the  "Next" button

Step 4:  Your card will be charged and a confirmation email will be sent to the Nameking account holder                      email address.  You should see the credit to your account in the Billing Summary as well.

Pay by check

You may also pay by check from a US or Canadian bank, if you prefer.  Please be sure to put the name(s) of the domain(s) typed twice on a separate sheet of paper and written again in the note area for the check.

The check must be drawn on a bank in the US or Canada and should be made out to NameKing.com and sent to:

 Foreign payments

 Checks:

We cannot accept foreign checks, even if they are made in US dollar amounts.  Please use the charge card instructions or the Traveler's Check option.  .

 Traveler's Checks

As an alternative for foreign based users, you may send US Dollar Traveler checks.  Make the checks payable to NameKing.com and keep a record of the numbers of the checks in case they are lost in transit.  These checks could be either America Express or Barclays.

Please also send an email to [email protected], stating that you will be sending money, and include the amount and check number, as well as your account login email.

  • How do I change my domains contact information?

Here are the steps:

  1. Login to your NameKing account @ https://www.nameking.com/
  2. Search for the domain name whose Contact Details you wish to modify and proceed to the Order Information view.
  3. Click the Contact Details link to proceed to the Contact Details view.
  4. Modify the details and click the Save Contact Details button to save the changes.


You may choose to use the the Registrant Contact Details for the Administrative, Billing & Technical Contact Details by selecting the Use same contact for Administrative, Billing & Technical details check box. 

You may choose to apply the modified details to all the domain names using this Contact by selecting the Update all Domain Names currently using this contact (wherever applicable) check box.

 

  • What is domain lock and how does it work?

A domain can be locked for two reasons.  This could either be a Registrar Lock or a Domain Protect Lock.  The WHOIS lookup cannot see the difference.  A Registrar Lock may be put in place by NameKing when a domain is the subject of a legal dispute.  The Domain Protect Lock is controlled by you with your NameKing tools.  You can log in and change them yourself.

To Enable/Disable Theft Protection for a domain name:

  1. Login to your Customer Control Panel, search for the domain name and proceed to the Order Information view.
  2. Click the Theft Protection link.
  3. To Enable Theft Protection: select the Enable button.
  4. To Disable Theft Protection: select the Disable button.
  5. Click the Update Theft Protection Status button.
  • I would like to set up a web hosted page, how do I go about this?

Unfortunately, Nameking does not offer web hosting services.  Therefore, you need to choose such a host and they will tell you what DNS servers to list in your NameKing account.

  • What are ICANN's redemption guidelines?

  • Why is it important to have accurate WHOIS information?

Section 3.7.7.1 The Registered Name Holder shall provide to Registrar accurate and reliable contact details and promptly correct and update them during the term of the Registered Name registration, including: the full name, postal address, e-mail address, voice telephone number, and fax number if available of the Registered Name Holder; name of authorized person for contact purposes in the case of an Registered Name Holder that is an organization, association, or corporation; and the data elements listed in Subsections 3.3.1.2, 3.3.1.7 and 3.3.1.8.

Section 3.7.7.2 A Registered Name Holder's willful provision of inaccurate or unreliable information, its willful failure promptly to update information provided to Registrar, or its failure to respond for over fifteen calendar days to inquiries by Registrar concerning the accuracy of contact details associated with the Registered Name Holder's registration shall constitute a material breach of the Registered Name Holder-registrar contract and be a basis for cancellation of the Registered Name registration.

Section 3.7.7.3 Any Registered Name Holder that intends to license use of a domain name to a third party is nonetheless the Registered Name Holder of record and is responsible for providing its own full contact information and for providing and updating accurate technical and administrative contact information adequate to facilitate timely resolution of any problems that arise in connection with the Registered Name. A Registered Name Holder licensing use of a Registered Name according to this provision shall accept liability for harm caused by wrongful use of the Registered Name, unless it promptly discloses the identity of the licensee to a party providing the Registered Name Holder reasonable evidence of actionable harm.

TRANSFERS FAQ

  • How do I transfer my domain out of NameKing?

In order to transfer your domain names away from Nameking.com to your preferred registrar account:

  1. Logon to your Nameking account and make sure that the domain lock (Theft Protection) is disabled, that your domain has not expired and the email contact information is correct. If the Theft Protection is on, allow 24 hours to pass after you disable the Theft Protection before you ask the registrar to attempt a transfer.

 

  1. Your authorization code is located in the Domain Secret section once you click on the domain you would like to transfer out. Each domain will have a different code here.

 

  1. Open an account with another registrar and login to that account. You will need to apply for the Transfer at the Registrar of your choice. Refer to the New/Gaining Registrar's Transfer process to transfer your domain name under their management.

 

  1. Issue a transfer request from your account in the other registrar to move the domains from Nameking into your other registrar account. Once you have confirmed the Transfer with the New/Gaining Registrar, we would receive an intimation about this Transfer. NameKing Inc. would then be sending an email to the Registrant Contact of the domain name, informing them that a request for Transfer of this domain name has been placed with the New/Gaining Registrar. 

    Note: If you do not wish to Transfer your domain name to this New/Gaining Registrar, click the Cancel Transfer Link listed in the email within 5 days, from the date the email was sent.

 

  1. Read the email, the domain name will get transferred to the New/Gaining Registrar, at the expiry of 5 days from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar, provided the Registrant Contact does not cancel the Transfer.


Your transfer will not work if you skip any step above, or if the domain has expired and gone into expiry hold. Transfers take 5 days to complete. They do NOT happen immediately.

  • Why was my transfer request denied?

The Registrar of Record may deny a transfer request only in the following specific instances:

  1. Evidence of fraud
  2. UDRP action
  3. Court order by a court of competent jurisdiction
  4. Reasonable dispute over the identity of the Registered Name Holder or Administrative Contact
  5. No payment for previous registration period (including credit card charge-backs) if the domain name is past its expiration date or for previous or current registration periods if the domain name has not yet expired. In all such cases, however, the domain name must be put into "Registrar Hold" status by the Registrar of Record prior to the denial of transfer.
  6. Express written objection to the transfer from the Transfer Contact. (e.g. - email, fax, paper document or other processes by which the Transfer Contact has expressly and voluntarily objected through opt-in means)
  7. A domain name was already in "lock status" provided that the Registrar provides a readily accessible and reasonable means for the Registered Name Holder to remove the lock status.
  8. A domain name is in the first 60 days of an initial registration period.
  9. A domain name is within 60 days (or a lesser period to be determined) after being transferred (apart from being transferred back to the original Registrar in cases where both Registrars so agree and/or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs).

 

Instances when the requested change of Registrar may not be denied include, but are not limited to:

    • Nonpayment for a pending or future registration period
    • No response from the Registered Name Holder or Administrative Contact.
    • Domain name in Registrar Lock Status, unless the Registered Name Holder is provided with the reasonable opportunity and ability to unlock the domain name prior to the Transfer Request.
    • Domain name registration period time constraints, other than during the first 60 days of initial registration or during the first 60 days after a registrar transfer.
    • General payment defaults between Registrar and business partners / affiliates in cases where the Registered Name Holder for the domain in question has paid for the registration.

EXPIRED DOMAINS FAQ

  • What happens after my domain expires?

Generally, these arethe steps that a domain goes through after expiration. 

  1. NameKing will transmit pre- and post-expiration notifications via email to the registered domain name holder.
  2. Expiry hold - first 30 days following expiration - This can only be used by the previousowner to recover the domain.  The domain may not be sold.
  3. Redemption period - the next 30 days.  Again, this can only be used by the previous ownerto recover the domain.  The domain may not be sold, unless it is a trademarkand the trademark owner requests a transfer.
  4. Pending Cancellation - the next 5 days.
  5. Final cancellation - 65 days after expiration.  The domainis available to bereregistered by any party through a registrar.

  • My domain* is about to expire. What can I do?

You may attempt to transfer it out before that date or renew it.  A transfer will take 5 days to complete. 

You can also renew your domain for the specified amount required, depending on the type of TLD you've purchased.

If you do not renew the domain, an expiry hold will automatically be placed on the domain after the expiration.  This will stop all web traffic and the expiry hold will last about 30 days.  You may renew the domain within this period, for the designated amount required.  If, however, you wait beyond the expiry hold, the domain will be cancelled and be in a redemption period for about 30 additional days.  For you to retrieve a domain from a redemption period requires a fee to cover our costs and our payment to Verisign, totaling $300.  After the redemption period, the domain will go into a cancellation period of about 5 days and finally, after that cancellation period, the domain will be available to the world for anyone in any country to re-register it.  Please be warned that there are many companies waiting to register attractive domains as soon as they become available and it is likely that you may not succeed to reregister a domain if you leave it past redemption period.

  • I've logged into my account but cannot find my domain, where is it and how can I get it back?

The domain in question has probably expired.  As of the expiration date your domain goes into a redemption period for 30 days.  Once the 30 days has ended your domain

will be cancelled and should become available for anyone to register, 5 days after that. 

  • How do I renew my domain name?
  • Login to your Control Panel.
  • Search for the domain name and proceed to the Order Information view.
  • Click the Renew button.
  • From the Renew for drop-down box, select the numbers of years for which you wish to renew this domain name. You may renew the Privacy Protection service along with the domain name, by selecting the Include Privacy checkbox.
  • Click the Renew Domain Name button.
  • Proceed to Pay for the renewal, under the Pay Online section please click 'continue' to proceed to pay via the NameKing Payment Gateway
